Me vs. The Weekend

This weekend ended up a bit different than I had expected. So, let's check out the recap!

Me vs. the crown molding:
We've been wanting to put crown in the great room/kitchen area for a while, but when we priced everything at Lowes it was going to be well over a grand. No thank you. We found it somewhere else for MUCH cheaper and had it delivered on Friday. Trying to save more money, we decided to make the corner blocks ourselves- we can make small miter cuts. Unfortunately I didn't anticipate it taking 6 hours to make 12 boxes.
Winner: Me. By default, but only because we finished.

Me vs. Being a parent:
Having Kacie live with us has been pretty easy, except this weekend she wanted to stay with a friend. Sure. OK. Until she called bragging about 'getting shitfaced and going to Electric Cowboy.' Oh. My. God.
So I found out what kind of parent I would be. I've always thought I would opt to be the 'cool parent' and let things slide.
Nope, I very much launched into a 'drinking and driving is the stupidest thing you could do, I don't care how old you are' lecture to her friend when she dropped her off.
Winner: Me, I guess. I realized I can hold my own when necessary. Although, I think it aged me at least two years.

Me vs. Dinner sunday night:
After the marathon corner block making party, I was a bit tired and not eager to make dinner. So around 6:30 (I know, not actually late, but we ate lunch at 11) I threw some pre-stuffed chicken patties into the oven and mix up some instant potatoes. The chicken takes about 30 minutes to cook. So, of course, the electricity goes off 10 minutes into cooking them.
I decided that we would wait. 15 minutes later we decided that take-out would be the better option. After getting redressed we realized that our cars were safely tucked into our garage where the electric opener didn't work. After toying with the idea of having something delivered, it was decided that I would finish cooking dinner on the grill out back. Thankfully we have a burner on the grill for the side dishes and the chickens actually cooked up well.
Winner: The weather. After the food was eaten and we decided to go to bed early (8:30) from boredom, the power came back on.

So, this is a short post. But what about you? What did you do this weekend? Whatever it was, I hope you won.

Me vs. The Weekend

As I discussed, back here, this is the first technical installment of 'Me vs. The Weekend!'

Me vs The Weekend

Hopefully you guys had a fun weekend and want to share it. So, read about my battles this weekend, then grab the button from the right bar and then come back here and link up!

On to my weekend:

Me vs. the spare bedroom:
I've been working on the spare room now for, uh, entirely too long. But, we finally got the desk finished and put up the bookshelves. My books finally have a place to rest. I also realized I don't have nearly enough books!
Winner: Me! (with procrastination coming in a close second)

Me vs. The Hogs:
We don't have a professional team of any kind in Arkansas, just the Hogs. So everyone loves them (we have nothing else.) So, every year when football season rolls around, I'm forced to endure hogs football (among other teams, most notably the Cowboys-Brad fav).
Winner: The Hogs (both literally and figuratively. They beat um, some other team they were playing, and I was in the house while the game was on and I sorta kinda heard some of it.)

Me vs. Two doe-eyed boys:
During the aforementioned Hogs game, I was 'asked' to play hide and go seek by two young guys. I could not say no.
Winner: The boys. I'm a sucker and a pretty good hider, you know, when compared to a 4-year old.

Me vs. the flower beds:
There's absolutely no contest here. The flower beds are kicking my ass! They look like crap. Two weeks ago the yard guy left a note requesting we 'get more mulch.' They're about 50% grass and another 20% weeds. And, there is going to be a large party at my house next weekend. I'm kind of embarrassed.
Winner: The weeds. Losers: Me and my neighbors. (I'm surprised I haven't gotten a letter!)

For the most part, this weekend kicked my butt. It wasn't very interesting and, I lost almost all my battles. Hopefully, next week will be more exciting. (I'm banking on it. There will be a 2 year-olds party at my house, which means lots of cup cakes, cake pops and cookies being made by me and not one, but TWO jump houses, one inside and one outside.)

So, how was your weekend? Let me know!

Last-minute add on: Me vs. Mr. Linky
WTF? I'm missing something. And since I totally procrastinated this post, I'm sitting here at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday night scrolling back months into a friends blog looking for this damn widget thing and coming up empty handed! Also, my laptop battery is hovering around 22%, wait, make that 21%. So, until I get it figured out (hint, hint Aud or Sara, I'm going to need you to tell me), just leave your info in the comment section.
Winner: Mr. Linky. Until we meet again. Scratch that, I just kicked Mr. Linky's butt!
I win!

New stuff

So, a while back I made up this thing, I called it 'Me vs. The Weekend,' where I went through and listed stuff I did over the weekend and declared a winner.
And then I noticed that someone else did it. And then, someone else did too. And I thought, "Hey! Let's make this a regular thing!"
So, introducing:

Me vs The Weekend
(Cute button, huh?) Audreya graciously made this for me because, well, I wouldn't have even know how to start on the coding part and the design part? Well, let's just say I'm a writer for a reason.

So, starting Monday, come over here, grab the button and tell me what you did over the weekend and who won! I think it's a fun way to recap the craziness of our lives. I'll have mine up first thing Monday and (if I figure out what the heck I'm doing) I'll have Mr. Linky up and you can add to the fun. Otherwise you can just post in the comments.
I look forward to seeing how the weekend treated you. If you want to see a Me vs. The Weekend in action, check out my original post here. Sarah's post here. And Audreya's post here
