A little late

So, as I mentioned in my last blog post (if you could really call that random spewing of words a post) I've been busy. Like really, really busy. Like staying at work until 6, 7, and even 8 p.m. Which, if you know me, that's late. Because, well, I usually get here around 7:30 a.m. So being here that late puts me in for almost 12 hours. Which can make anyone feel like a puddle of goo.
On top of that, I'm dealing with new (but wanted) responsibilities and all kinds of strange changes. Needless to say, I come home shaking and fall on the giant ottoman determined to lay there forever. FOREVER.
Instead, I peel myself up, go work out, make dinner, give Presley his demanded full two minutes of belly rubs, all the while staring at the ominous little mac I brought home with me thinking I might get some work done. For the record, I don't. Instead, we watch a few DVR'd shows sans-ads and then fall into bed. Where I guiltily get up early and do it all again the next day.
Oh and I've also taken on one too many cakes in order to help ease the cost of our upcoming vacation. So last night I fiddled with cake and cardboard fashioning a pop-up camper for the bakery. Tonight I have to start making the fillings for the two cakes I have on Saturday. Which, I'm taking off Friday to decorate and assemble. The bakery is baking them for me, in exchange, I'm going to decorate a few cakes. So, if you're counting (which, I know you are) that is FOUR wedding cakes on Friday. FOUR.
See? Taking on too much. But Friday before last, I did three wedding cakes and a grooms cake, so I guess it's not that different.
Right?
Right.
And as frustrating ass all this random jumble is, I don't know that I would change it if given the option. AND, there is my little. My weekly lunch time obligation. Where I go and hang out. And while the break from everything is great, it also requires planning. Activities. What to bring? And food. Which, I have none of today. Meaning she will be subjected to some form of takeout. Which I hate to do, but I think as an 8-year old, she will probably enjoy.
So, I guess I'm saying all of that to say this: That's why I haven't been around lately. I haven't posted anything useful. And I'm barely even managing to add anything witty to twitter.
And that kind of sucks.
I like being able to have my time. To write what I want to write. Whether that's about random cakes, whining about something stupid some idiot driver did or the latest project Brad and I have worked on together.
So this is me saying I'll be back. scratch that. I AM back. And I will have a lot of cakes to talk about in the near future!

  1. That is a lot of cakes. It's possible you have lost your mind. :-) I don't know how you're doing it. Last year, I had so much insanity at work that I hardly did any cakes. The problem is that once I figured out the word "No", now it's easier and easier to say... and I too could use the extra money towards vacation. Also, I would never get up from your giant ottoman. It's the greatest ottoman in all the world.

  3. That is a ton of cakes! My cousin/brother made Carter a Thomas the Tank Engine cake for his birthday and I was there when he was assembling it and OMG I have a new found enormous respect for your talent. I mean I thought your cakes were way cool but after seeing all the work that goes into them? HOLY CRAP YOU ARE AMAZING.

  4. Indeed, that is a ton of cake. Which, coincidentally, is what I would like to have in front of me right now. Mmmm....cake.
